Lab 1: Workflow, Thonny and Python

Solutions

Goals

A cartoon mouse labeled 'python' and a penguin labeled 'cs111' smiling and holding hands. The mouse is wearing a mortar board with a tassel and the penguin is wearing a red scarf.

Be a good partner

Throughout today's lab (and our remaining labs), you will work with a partner. Typically, you and your partner would share the keyboard, swapping it back and forth, but with social distancing and remote classes, you and your partner will instead share a zoom breakout room (screen sharing encouraged). You will ask each other questions and offer each other support. Your job is to make sure that both you of you understand something before moving on.

High-level overview of today's lab

In today's lab you will how to use two programs we'll need this semester: Cyberduck and Thonny. Then, you'll practice writing simple Python programs that rely upon user input and produce some output. Finally, you will practice building creative scenes using turtle graphics.
